Port Angeles, Washington Exchange Club

Festival of Trees

Festival of Trees Annual Fundraising Event
The event began when a member attended a Festival of Trees in another city and thought it would be a great fundraiser for our club.  Knowing that it would be too great of an undertaking for our small group we partnered with the Olympic Medical Center Foundation. Since November 1991 we have produced the most saught after ticket event in Port Angeles.

The event is held in our City gymnasium which is transformed into a winter wonderland.  There is a different theme every year.  There are approximately 35-40 beautifully decorated trees all of which have premiums that go with them.  There are usually about 100 wreaths that are silent auctioned along with other items.

It all begins on Friday morning, immediately following Thanksgiving, with two sitting of the "Teddy Bear Tea".  The local children get to enjoy lots of wonderful holiday goodies while costumed characters wander around, the ballet perfoms and other entertainers captivate the young at heart.

There is a quick change of scene to prepare for the "Gala". This elegant event brings out all the beautiful ladies in their evening gowns and the gentlemen in their finary.  While being wooed with scrumptious food and liquid refreshments they peruse the items to be sold. As the auctioneer luls them all into submission the final trees are sold to the highest bidder.  The evening ends with a lively band with lots of dancing and camaraderie.

Saturday morning is when the club kicks into high gear.  We begin at 8:30am with the "Senior Breakfast". We serve our senior citizens a full breakfast while they enjoy live entertainment.  After breakfast we keep the lights a little higher so they can enjoy a relaxed viewing of the trees without the hustle and bustle of lots of holiday families.

At 11am we open for "Family Days".  This is where the general public is able to view all the wonderful trees, enjoy holiday treats, purchase raffle tickets in the hopes of winning one of the trees or wreaths, and listen to different live entertainment every hour.  There are photo's with Santa, and lots of crafts and games for the children to enjoy.

Sunday is a repeat of Saturday and at 3pm when we close, a great time was had by all - and we are exhausted!
